Dear friends, We hope that you and your families had a wonderful Easter, and that you are feeling a little more rested, rejuvenated, and inspired by the story of our risen Jesus. As we move deeper into this autumn season and the days get chillier, we pray that you and your families are keeping warm and well. We also would like to take this moment to thank each of you who donated to our Easter Appeal. Every dollar raised goes directly to powering the ministry of HealthServe, and supporting the fantastic work of our program partners around the world. This Easter, those funds will be sent directly to our health worker programs in South Sudan and Indonesia, as well as training programs via ICMDA and PRIME.
Update from the ExecutiveRecently, we were excited to announce Rob Hensser as the new Executive Officer of HealthServe Australia. Rob has spent two months in the role, making a valuable contribution to the organisation. However, due to personal reasons, Rob has unfortunately needed to withdraw from his position with us. We ask that you keep Rob and his family in your prayers, as well as the wider team at HSA as we look to appoint his successor while maintaining operations.
Good news from Orison Medical Centre, South SudanYour support is continuing to make a difference! There has been a significant step forward in our Orison Medical Centre Project in South Sudan. Thanks to your generous efforts, the borehole we were fundraising for (part of the first step in this significant project) has been paid for and installed. The site and local community now have access to clean water! Now, as we look to the horizon, our next challenge awaits. HealthServe Australia is stepping into the next phase of our mission: raising $20,000 to construct the frame for the medical centre. This endeavour isn't just about the physical structure—it's about building hope, health, and resilience in the heart of the community. The funds will ensure that we have the materials, labour, and transport needed to bring this vision to life. It's an invitation to be part of something bigger, to weave our stories and strengths together in building a better world. If you would like to contribute to its ongoing mission, please donate here.
The need for support in Ukraine continuesThe conflict in Ukraine persists, bringing relentless devastation with little sign of abating, although international coverage and support appear to be dwindling. The International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) is currently dispatching approximately two truckloads of donated supplies to Ukraine each month. Despite dwindling funds, they continue to gather essential medical supplies for shipment. There is an urgent need for fresh funding. Each truckload from London to Ukraine, filled with medical supplies, costs about £2,500 (A$4900). ICMDA aims to send at least 30 more trucks over the next year, requiring a total of £75,000 (A$146,000). One woman benefiting from our efforts shared her experience: "At the age of 19, I was faced with a very serious diagnosis - pancreatic necrosis, which led to hormonal imbalances, and unfortunately, to this day, this problem has not left me. Now, for the rest of my life, the only thing that helps me control insulin levels in my body is Metformin." Please donate our Ukraine Appeal to continue to bring aid to those in need. For a deeper dive into the Ukraine Appeal, watch Dr Rudi Migovich’s talk with us here.
Apply for our $1000 HeartStart GrantDo you know a health worker student who would benefit from funding and overseas experience? HeartStart is an award of HealthServe Australia valued at up to $1000 for health-worker students in Australia to seed-fund travel to a developing country to immerse themselves in a safe resource-poor setting, develop relationships and gather information. From this they may be able to develop a Concept Paper for a project that may transform health outcomes for the host beneficiary group. We are currently taking applications for the 2024 Award. If you or someone you know would like to apply, please fill out this form.
