Would be visiting teachers will apply indicating their skills and availability. They will submit their CV and supply names of 2 referees - one professional and one church related. The process for selection will be based on that use by PRIME Int. Preference will be given to those with teaching experience and developing country experience, but many candidates may not have both. Two PRIME Project of HSA persons and one PRIME Int. person will review applications. Teachers will understand that HealthServe Australia is a Christian organisation but will not be required to sign the faith declaration, as do those who choose to become members of HSA. During the trips of PRIME Project of HSA, many of the visiting teachers will engage local participants and teachers in conversation about the spiritual aspects of health, but this is not a requirement.

Prime – Partnerships in International Medical Education donations and tax-deductibility.

Activities of PRiME are in two categories

  1. Located in Australia – e.g. medical education training given to Australian volunteers who may later go on overseas trips to teach. Contributions do not go through the Overseas Aid Fund and are not tax deductible as a donation for overseas development work. However, individuals may be able to claim a tax deduction for their own professional development as a business expense.  HSA also sponsors some overseas participants to join in the PRiME tutor training. The circumstances vary as to how donations are managed. Please inquire through HSA office to clarify.
  2. Located overseas in poorly resourced settings. When Australian volunteer Prime tutors go on teaching trips overseas to resource poor settings, this is regarded as a development activity. Funds raised for such trips are placed in the Overseas Aid Fund and a tax deductible receipt is issued. Tutors arranging their trips liaise with HSA office. An invoice for air fare made out to HSA is paid frrom the funds accumulated for the purpose.
