Hear from our Program Partners

Partner: National Torch of Love Foundation (Yayasan Suluh Kasih Bangsa)
Country: Indonesia

The National Torch of Love Foundation (NTOL), also known as Yayasan Suluh Kasih Bangsa, is committed to promoting and empowering communities through the provision of essential health knowledge, skills, and training. Initiatives such as the Basic Health Skill Training for Volunteers equip non-medical individuals with vital skills to administer first aid for accidents and diseases, contribute to community health development, and assist in early disease detection and care. Additionally, they facilitate referrals to the nearest health centers when necessary.

In Indonesia, the national health system faces challenges in meeting the basic needs of the population, particularly in rural areas, due to inadequate infrastructure, insufficient financial support, and a shortage of adequately trained healthcare providers. Moreover, the legal framework does not mandate treatment for individuals unable to afford it, leading to denied care.

Recognising the importance of community health promotion and prevention efforts, NTOL has developed an effective 'Community Health Worker Volunteer Training' program. This program has been conducted 15 times in recent years across various cities, including Solo, Batam, Bali, Bandungan, Jogjakarta, Salatiga, Kendari, Palembang, Bandung, Medan, Surabaya, and Makassar, addressing the top 13 leading causes of preventable death in Indonesia.

Health Serve Australia is excited to be partnering with NTOL as they look to deliver their next round of training which aims to:

  1. Shift the focus of health issues from curative/rehabilitative to preventive and promotive, and from personal to a community approach.
  2. Train and empower 50 more local Community Healthworker Volunteers from underserved areas such as North, West, Southeast, South, and Gorontalo Provinces.
  3. Facilitate referrals and accompany patients who are not receiving adequate care from local health officials to the nearest available health centers.

Join the National Torch of Love Foundation in their mission to empower communities and improve access to healthcare for all Indonesians. Together, they aim to make a difference in promoting a healthier nation.
